Ready, Set, Go!
On July 18th the Dallas Bears held their first meetings of the new Dallas Bears year. Our officers and appointees were all presented and ratified by the Membership. We had a few laughs hearing what flavor of donut you'd be and we had a lot of awesome business items to go over.
We are in the midst of our joint venture with the Leather Knights holding a school supply drive for youth of AIDS Services of Dallas and Youth First Texas. We will be posting a few supply drive and social nights on our August calendar, so watch for that. Additionally, we are gearing up for the Dallas Pride Parade, Leather Knights A.W.O.L. event, Tarrant County Pride Picnic, and our own Dallas Bears Turn-About Show.
At our first meeting the membership decided we would seek out the necessary process to request 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, work on preserving and recording our club's history and share in the functions that make us a Bear Family by focusing on Fun, Fellowship, Community Service and making Lasting Friendships.
As part of our first meeting we held a round table discussion as we shared our desires for the new year. Following the round table discussion each member was asked to break up into small groups according to their interest. Teams included: Recruitment Team, Social Planning Team, Historical Project Team, Special Events/Fundraiser Team, CareBear Team, Business/Exemption Team, Pride Parade Team and our ongoing Memories team.
We had a great break out session with the small groups and those teams will be coming together in the coming days to make and share their plans. There is a lot going on and there is a place for you to join in and be part of the fun.
Remember that Membership Renewals continue through our August Membership Meeting. We welcome new members as well.
It's a great day in the Dallas Bears and I hope you will join us for our 2009/2010 year.
~Wayne
